Why Saskatchewan Is a Waterfowl Hunter’s Dream Destination
Saskatchewan, located just south of the Northern Boreal Forest, is known as North America’s “duck factory”—one of the continent's most productive staging areas. Each fall, massive flocks of migratory waterfowl funnel into this prime flyway before moving on. Hunters travel from around the world to witness the sheer volume and variety of birds that gather in the pothole prairie region.
At Prairies Edge Outfitting, we operate exclusively in this region—northwestern Saskatchewan—offering access to thousands of acres of private farmland and wetlands. The combination of vast fields planted with peas, lentils, wheat, and barley, plus scattered potholes, sets the stage for some of the most successful duck, goose, snow goose, and sandhill crane hunts in Canada.
Our hunts take place entirely over land—it’s all field-based, keeping water bodies free from pressure so ducks and geese roost undisturbed. This strategy consistently yields calm, relaxed birds feeding heavily in the fields for precision shot opportunities.
What Sets Prairies Edge Outfitting Apart
Prairies Edge Outfitting delivers a truly world-class experience, anchored by professionalism, geographic advantage, and attention to detail. Founded and led by Mike McLane—who has guided clients since 2003—our team brings unmatched knowledge of Saskatchewan terrain, waterfowl behavior, and field logistics.
Our guiding philosophy revolves around quality. From state-of-the-art decoy spreads and layout blinds to daily scouting, we go the extra mile to make every hunt precise and successful. Combine that with experienced guides and high-end gear, and you get consistent results that earn us over 73 five-star Google reviews and glowing client stories.
Every detail of your trip—from lodging to meals, license, cleaning services, and unlimited shells—is included. We aim to reduce stress by offering all-inclusive packages so that hunters can focus on the hunt and the experience—no hidden fees, no surprises.
Types of Hunts We Offer

Duck Hunts
Our duck hunts focus on puddle ducks—Mallards, Pintails, Gadwall, Widgeon, Shoveler, Blue-winged, and Green-winged Teal. Mallards and Pintails comprise nearly equal proportions of each hunt’s harvest, with teal or gadwall often making a pleasant surprise appearance in the bag.
We hunt over feeding fields and small potholes—not large lakes—to optimize bird movement and reduce pressure. That field-based strategy means tighter formations of ducks funneling in over decoys, giving every hunter an up-close—and successful—shooting opportunity.
Our experienced guides set up hunts strategically each morning and afternoon based on current patterns. With thoughtful blinds, decoys, and technique, hunters enjoy both scenery and success in some of Canada’s top duck hunting fields.

Canada & Speckle-Belly Goose Hunts
We guide for Canada geese in all sizes—from large birds to mallard-size cacklers—as well as White-fronted (“Speck”) and Ross Geese. These geese feed consistently in grain fields throughout the season, especially mornings and evenings, for reliable performance.
Goose hunts are managed over farmland only—never water—so birds roost undisturbed at night and feed freely during the day. Quiet, field-based setups make for calm, predictable goose behavior and clean, ethical shooting opportunities for hunters.
Clients often remark on the intensity of goose flocks working into decoys—there’s nothing like in-the-face Canada goose action. Our guides position groups precisely to take full advantage of every bird entering the spread.

Spring Snow Goose Hunts
Spring snow goose hunts take place from April 15 through May 10. These limited-availability hunts target massive concentrations of migrating snow geese in key staging areas across Saskatchewan.
Spring hunting offers liberal limits, excellent shooting, and the chance to extend a hunting season into warmer weather. It’s a favorite for return clients who want more action after fall hunts.

Sandhill Crane Hunts
We offer guided hunts for sandhill cranes at no extra charge as part of your waterfowl hunt, depending on crane availability. This is not mixed-bag pass shooting—it’s true crane decoying using full-body spreads and scouted fields.
If cranes are present and you’re interested, we typically hunt cranes in the morning and then continue with ducks or snow geese in the afternoon for a full day of variety and value.
